So while hunting, we thought it would be fun to... ok, so I thought it would be fun to go shoot some milk jugs (I think Tiffany had some fun too though). We took some videos of our fun.
This next one was great. It was amazing what even a little handgun can do with the right ammunition.
So after shooting them with the handgun, we decided to see what the rifle would do....
Well our trip almost got cancelled because the little red car blew up.. But my dad wanted Jared to be able to come back up and shoot a cow so he had us take Cassidy's car. We were going to leave Friday afternoon at about 3 so we could be up there by 5 but my mom was gone, and she had Cassidy's car. We ended up having to wait for her to get home, which was around 4, and once again almost didn't go because my dad said that it might be too late. We decided to try and make up there anyway, so we hurried and got the car packed and hit the road.
We made fabulous time and got to Panguitch lake by 5:30. We had perfect timing and happened to pass my dad and the rest of the gang on our way to camp. They were just leaving camp to head out hunting. We drove around a little bit but ended up sitting on the side of the road, watching clearings for elk. Dad and Jared saw some cow elk so the started to hike to get a little closer. They got about 400 yards away and then took the shot. It took four shots to get the elk down, the first two were way off because my dad told Jared that the elk was 500+ yards away (it was so flat that my dad was getting the trees behind the elk). After they finially figured out the right range Jared hit the elk (3rd shot) in the gut area and the in the spine with the 4th. After hitting it in the spine Doug, Kendall, and I hiked to where the elk was to help de-bone it and pack it out. Jared and my dad finished hiking to the elk. When they got to the elk it was still moving a little bit so Jared got to shoot it with his 10mm (in the eye...). Jared didn't care to have any pictures so we didn't get any... (It was dark and cold.)
After finishing up with the elk we hiked back to the truck and went back to camp. When we got back to camp we put the elk in ice chests and then had dinner. For dinner we had part of my dad's elk's tenderloins done over the fire. :) We then went to bed.
After waking up we packed up camp and ate breakfast. While doing this Jared had TONS of fun shooting his gun.
After Jared got done shooting I helped my dad take a score of his Elk.
Unfortunately we didn't get to be there when my dad got his nice bull but Cassidy sorta got a video of it. Here's the video:
My dad had a pretty much, once in a lifetime bull elk hunt this last week. Jared and I decided that we wanted to go. Jared scheduled work off, well in advance, and we packed our bags. We left late Sunday night, but had to be back Wednesday so my dad let us take their little red, diesel escort that gets 50 or so miles to the gallon. Nothing better than good gas mileage with these gas prices, right? We got up to Panguitch Lake late Sunday night and set up camp. Unfortunately, we forgot to take pictures of camp.. Oh well, there will probably be enough on here anyways. :)
Monday morning we got up early and took a small hike. While hiking we saw a "little" white dog. Jared and I tried to get close enough to pet it, but he was scared and kept running away. Velocity also got to try out her little back pack. She fell asleep in it for a little while, but after waking up she quickly decided that she wanted out. Unfortunately, we forgot the camera on this hike.. Great start, huh? We then went back to camp and had a can of beans and took a nap. Dad snuggled up with Velocity in the camper while Jared and I looked at all of the pictures that were on our THREE cameras (I know.. three cameras and no pictures on here yet). We had a lot of pictures to look at! After finishing we decided to also go take a nap. Then Monday night we decided to road hunt. While road hunting we saw 2 cows, 1 small bull, and a calf (not all together). Sadly, we didn't get a to shoot at either one of the cows (we also had a cow tag..). While on the night hunt we did get a cute little video of Velocity.
I also got some pictures while driving around.
Enjoyin' some jerky

And Austin got to ride the motorcycle all by HIMSELF...
In the back of the truck of course!
Funny Story: While driving around Austin kept climbing on the motorcycle. At one point he wasn't holding on, coincidentally we just happened to hit a huge rock the was on the side of the road that no one saw... Austin FLEW off of the motorcycle. Uncle Doug said it looked like he was thrown off of a bucking bronco (or something like that). He was ok and didn't get hurt, actually, he jumped up and wanted to get back on the motorcycle. He thought it was a ton of fun to fly off.
Tuesday morning we decided to get up early and road hunt in the same area we saw the elk the night before. While leaving camp we saw a bunch of elk run across the road in front of us, but is was too early to shoot. After getting to our destination, I "got" to drive, following Uncle Doug.
On the way back to camp we stopped at a gas station to buy some chapstick and Velocity got to drive her own car!
During our lunch break on both Monday and Tuesday we did a little 'photo shoot' with Velocity in her cute camo clothes with her cute camo bow.
Tuesday night Cassidy, Austin, Velocity, and I stayed at camp while Jared, Dad, Doug, and Kendall took a long hike. They found a good area where there had been lots of elk. They hunted the area a little bit and were even calling in some elk, until a dog came barking and scared them away. They weren't very happy about the dog. In the mean time, the four of us back at camp talked and took a LONG nap. When the men got back we had dinner and went to bed.
Wednesday morning Dad decided that he wanted to go hiking to the spot they had gone to the night before. This time Velocity and I went with. We put Velocity in her little backpack and kept her snuggled in so she would stay warm. She quickly fell asleep and slept for most of the hike there. After she woke up she wanted out and was being a little noisy. It sure was a task to keep that little talker quiet. After sitting and calling the elk for a little while Velocity had a very poopy diaper, an explosion out the side, and of course we hadn't brought a spare pair of clothes hiking... I also noticed that Velocity got her FIRST tooth. It cut through Wednesday morning or late Tuesday night. A little while later Jared and I hiked back to camp because we had to pack and leave so he could get back to class.
After getting back to camp we quickly packed up our stuff and put it in the car. We got Velocity in her car seat and tried to start the car.. It wouldn't start. We 'got' to spend thirty minutes trying to start the car. Jared and I were both about ready to give up, and maybe we should have taken that as a sign, but the car finally started at 11:30 am so we hit the road.
We had an hour and a half to make it from Panguitch Lake to Washington, Utah; we were pushing it a little.
We coasted down the long hill from Brian Head to Parowan. It took us about 45 minutes to do so. Now all we had to do was get on the freeway and head to Washington, this is were the trouble started... We couldn't find the freeway entrance! Since we couldn't find the freeway entrance we ended up driving southbound on Old Highway 91 towards Summit. We decided that we would just follow Old Highway 91 and get on the freeway at Summit. Well, halfway between Summit and Parowan the little red car decided to 'blow up' on us, so we were stuck on the side of the highway. We called our parents and found a ride. Jared's parents were kind enough to find a trailer and come and tow us home. :) After we figured out arrangements we took pictures!
While waiting 3 hours for our ride we had 4 police officers, 1 women, and about 5 men stop to see if they could help us. One of the men offered to give us a tow to Summit so we would be out of the sun.
When we got to Summit Jared's parents were also just getting to Summit. The nice man helped us get the car on the trailer and he also gave us home grown apples and pears off of his trees. He said that he was going to invite us in to eat a creamsicle and watch TV while we waited. Aren't nice people amazing?
After getting the car on the trailer we got on the freeway. We made one stop in Enoch to get drinks and then we headed to my parents house to drop off the car. We got there around 4:30, just in time for Jared to 'race' to the school to take his test and head to his last class of the day.
We went to the lake yesterday. It was our first time since having Velocity, and it was tons of fun. Jared and I sure did enjoy taking pictures. (Prepare for LOTS of pictures :) ) Here is the view we had.
Gunlock
The water was a little cold at first but felt really good after being in it for a minute. Velocity was a little shy at first but after getting use to the water, realizing she could splash, and finding the mud she enjoyed it.
After playing in the water for a little while Velocity decided that she was cold and wanted to get out. So we all got out and played on the sand.. taking lots of pictures.
Boats kept going by and sending waves. Velocity kept looking to find what was making that sound.
We also packed a lunch for our trip. We had turkey sandwiches with swiss and cheddar cheese with water.
Just a few more pictures of our trip and our spot at the lake.
Mommies beach shoes..
Daddies beach shoes..
All of our stuff
We had tons of fun at the lake and can't wait to go again.
This week we are going hunting with my dad. It will be fun to see Velocity in all of her adorable camo clothes that finally fit! Check back next week for a fun filled story (or pictures).
